AG warns of swine flu scam

Published Wednesday, May 6, 2009

In a release Tuesday, Attorney General Troy King and the Better Business Bureau warned consumers about scam artists preying on fear regarding the spread of the swine flue.

King said consumers should be on the lookout for “fradulent emails and Web sites looking to take advantage of the public’s heightened focus on the potential pandemic.”

Some reported e-mails use fake headlines about celebrities catching swine flu and direct readers to online pharmacy scams.

The release warns consumers not to open e-mails or Web site links from an unknown source.
