Racing returns to CAMS

Published Tuesday, November 10, 2009

The Central Alabama Motor Speedway has reopened under new management.

The 3/8-mile red clay track has set dormant for six months but is now under the direction of Jaye Hutchison, a former dirt track driver.

The track will feature competition in Crate Late Model, Thunder Car, Hobby, Super Pony, Buzz Car and Pure Pony.

Races will be held through November. Practice dates will soon be announced, and the opener of the 2010 race season will be March 6.

Phillip Burnett will serve as the tech man, and Ed Davis has been named the public relations director and track announcer.

“With the cohesion of all the well-experienced track officials, and a certified mechanic as the tech man, drivers and fans can expect a family atmosphere and experience a well-planned night of dirt track racing,” Davis said. “All will be thoroughly entertained. Race fans and drivers can expect clean, full-service concessions in the grandstands and pits—that all can afford.
