Murder trial ends after plea agreement

Published Monday, November 16, 2009

Two Clanton men on trial for murder entered plea agreements Monday.

Christopher Iman Ulmer, 33, pled guilty to manslaughter and will be sentenced Dec. 2.

Kowosky Tywan Christian, 31, pled guilty to hindering prosecution. He was sentenced Monday to three years on the felony charge.

The men were scheduled to stand trial this week in connection with the 2006 shooting death of Issac Dedarge Bulger of Clanton.

According to officials, both men were in a truck from which a person allegedly shot into the victim’s car in West End. Bulger died the following day from a gunshot wound to the head.

Assistant District Attorney Jessica Sanders said there was no evidence that Christian shot into Bulger's car.

Manslaughter? Did he pull the trigger by accident?
Was he deer hunting from a vehicle and the poor victim just happen to get in the way? I thought drive by penalty's were tougher than if the crime had been committed at point blank range. I dunno!

BamaMadd did he pull the trigger by accident ? No he pulled it because the victim was shooting at him. Know the facts PLEASE ! It definitly would help. It's so sad how that is never mention. In you say poor victim, but what about all the shootings that he have committed ??? What about those victims ? Once again failed to mention that ....

So they both were driving and shooting, should of been self defense then. Why plea bargain? Give me some facts on that! I would not take a plea if it was self defense, would you?

KWS, as a Christian, I believe the dead know this thing: how joyful they are that they let go of their pride and had a Savior, because when that day comes and the flesh body is left behind, Christians go immediately into the presence of God and rejoice. There is no waiting for that!

(If he was deer hunting in West End, perhaps that should be a crime in itself!) Scary that a 'potential' murderer could be back on the streets, period.

Some people act like they have never sinned before in their life. A sin is a sin no matter how big or small it is. Some people always judge other people, but never think of what they have done or their family members have done. I am so glad that your decisions or comments on earth doesn't even matter. God is definitly a forgiving God. My heart goes out to both of the families. One thing I do know is that this did not seperate the families, there is no hard feelings between the two. I think if they are ok with everything and they let God handle it , then so should we.

I lived in Chisolm last April and saw some guys running through the neighborhood on the street behind my house shooting at each other. I don't know why they were shooting at each other, I watched from the darkness of my backyard with my .40 in hand, but it it's not your fight you stay out of it. One thing is for sure, the cops won't get there in time; I called them once when there was an argument and shooting and they showed up 30 minutes later.

Maybe Bulger did something to Ulmer and then he chased down Bulger to exact revenge. I would like to think that if someone ever shot at my house or broke in or something like that, that I could get the tag number and call the police, but the truth is that I would be tempted to run them down and shoot them if I saw them or knew who it was. That would be vigilante justice and would be more deserving of the manslaughter charge I would think.

NOTE: I have no idea as to the details of this case, but I do have my suspicions as to what happened.

I don't think that Ulmer is that well connected with "the good ole boys" as you are insinuating countywatch.

Probably the men were advised by their legal council to accept the plea.

The dead in a homicide case are always victims, but they are not always innocent.

I must say I feel a lil better today. I still think Christian has served his time and they need to look at that and let him be freed. Thank God this mess is finally almost over for him. He has been through so much! My prayers still go out to both of them and the Bulger familiy.

heavensent: "A sin is a sin no matter how big or small it is. " I find it VERY hard to believe that God doesn't see any difference between murder and say... shoplifting. If that's the case then there's no difference between what Adolf Hitler did and someone who tells a white lie.

I don't know nor care about the particulars in this case, but it seems that we would have all been better off, and saved a lot of money, if these folks had stood in a circle facing each other before they started the shooting match. It doesn't sound like any of them were on their way to Sunday School.

I can understand the concerns about what has happened since we last read the stories about this case. Its bad how the paper made this sound excatly the opposite of what actually happened. tigerabs: I share your well thought feelins. And I pray he has learned a lesson behind this and emerge a stronger man. Nothing said can bring the inner peace to the parent of the victim, but no this, he is okay now and one day he will sit with our Father. The publishing of this story as it was, was so pathetic. And it didnt take that estimation of a week for justice to be reached. It took taking a look at the truth and we may never know that, but we do no it was never murder!

Kwrsgraves: Too bad you dont write for the CA. Yes an innocent man fought for his freedom. I wonder was there any forms of apologizes given to this man? No. The fact is that the so called justice system was going to make this man talk regardless of the evidence. The DA stated there was no evidence that he did the shootin, then why was arrested for murder? Did it take payin an attorney to hear the truth? Now that is what's scary! Makes me wonder how many more innocent people has stood before the courts and was convicted only because the system had nothing better to do that day. This is a story for those endless records. I hope Christen writes a book about this case, will the CA give him a interview? No, you ony quote from people that have a title behind their name, that we the tax payers have paid for!

Well, actually, the Bible says that the dead know nothing and don't think anything. Ecclesiastes 9:5 and Psalm 146:4

"Some people act like they have never sinned before in their life. A sin is a sin no matter how big or small it is. "

You really believe that? I mean like deep in your heart you believe that if you lie to a friend about a hair cut,or tell some other white lie would be the SAME as murder?

I dont, I believe there is a HUGE difference. For me,my faith has taught me there is a difference in venial and mortal Sins.

Also, for what its worth-I dont think anyone here acts like they have never done ANYTHING wrong-I think its pretty much the total opposite.

"I lived in Chisolm last April..."

Thats a pretty sketchy area.

Then again,most of Montgomery is.

"there are different levels of hell are there not?"

Dante Alighieri thought so.....

Seriously though,I know many people have a "levels" of heaven and hell belief.Sorta like-better and worse seating at concert,or football game.
I believe there are only heaven, hell,or purgatory.

What is Hell anyway?
Here are some things to think about...
The Bible says "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23.(KJV) doesn't say eternal torture. Then, "Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment." John 5:28 (American Standard Version) And, "And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them; and they were judged every man according to their works." Revelation 20:13 (KJ21) Hell gives up the dead in it...so logic shows that they aren't there eternally.
