Bulldogs knock Verbena out of playoff contention

Winterboro held Verbena scoreless Friday in the second half of a 28-18 region win that ended Verbena’s playoff hopes.

The Red Devils (5-4, 3-4 Class 1A, Region 4) had a 18-14 halftime lead thanks to two touchdown passes from quarterback Brad Boswell to Bay Lucas, of 25 and 27 yards, and a 45-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Brandon White.

Boswell completed 11 passes in 22 attempts for 158 yards.

Kelly Dorsett rushed 10 times for 43 yards, and Kelly Lucas rushed 11 times for 39 yards against the Bulldogs (6-3, 6-1).

Blake Bell caught four passes for 65 yards.

Jason Ray registered 20 tackles and a sack, and Blake Gore had 16 tackles.
