Déjà vu: Teen charged again

Published Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Chilton County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a 19-year-old Verbena man Tuesday night for the robbery of a south Chilton County convenience store, less than 10 hours after the incident.

Timothy Jake Wells Jr., who was also a suspect in the July 1 burglary of Action Motorsports in Clanton, is facing first degree robbery charges. Wells had been out on bond, officials said.

The suspect allegedly entered Ye Olde General Store at the corner of county roads 59 and 24 at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday. He was armed with a shotgun and wearing a blue hood. After demanding money from the clerk, the suspect took about $200 in cash and fled in a brown, four-door Honda Accord, according to officials.

Chief Deputy Shane Mayfield said Wells lived within two miles of the store and that physical evidence links him to the robbery.

“It’s an escalation from burglary to armed robbery, and he needs to be in jail,” Mayfield said.

Mayfield added that the department is investigating burglaries in the area. While the Clanton Police Department assisted with the robbery case, there is no evidence to support a connection between Tuesday’s crime and any of the recent robberies around I-65 Exit 205 in south Clanton.

“They have all been in the confines of the city so far,” Mayfield said. “We don’t know if there’s going to be a connection.”

Sheriff Kevin Davis thanked all who assisted in the case.

“It was outstanding police work between the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department and Clanton Police,” he said. “It goes to show when law enforcement officers come together with one goal in mind, and the goal today was to remove this bad guy from the streets of Chilton County.”

Congratulations to Inv. Lee Falkner(spelled it right didn't I Lee!) The quotes were from Mayfield, but I'm sure he would say Falkner deserves the credit. From reserve to Inv, you've made a good police.

Gone fishing, I'm going to go you one better. Very seldom is it one person that makes the case. Patrol gathers the information and passes it on to the investigator, the investigator signs the case, and the guy with the title makes the statements. I have to say good team effort guys. Keep up the good work.

Hope they dont let him back out on the streets this time. He has proven his point he is where he wants to be.

Law enforcement has done there job and made a case against this person. I hope that the judicial system now does thiers and provides appropriate punishment. Way to go officers, one down, a million to go.

I hope this guy gets locked up for a while. Not only for the security of the community, but for his own safety as well. Its only a matter of time until he tries to rob someone who is prepared to defend themselves and pays for it with his life.

I believe this young man has been breaking the law for quite a while.

I think the police have done their job. I now hope the Court and the district attorney's office does their job!

He obviously needs to be incarcerated not patted on the head and told to sin no more.

I haven't lived in my home town of Clanton for many years. But I know many of the law enforcement people named here. I am happy for Kevin. I am also happy to see Shane Mayfield is Chief Deputy. I know, he and they have probably been for a while but it is a good world when those two join forces. Great guys!
