Massive amounts of steel, fiberglass, concrete and a 65,000-pound press are in place. All these components along with tons of newspaper, high-tech imaging equipment and the ingenuity of dozens of people have gone into the creation of Clanton Newspapers, Inc.'s new press facility.

Clanton Newspapers, Inc. owns and operates The Clanton Advertiser, The Extra and the online edition, www.clantonadvertiser.com.

CNI is a Boone Newspapers Inc. company. BNI is a Tuscaloosa, Ala., based newspaper management company that owns and manages more than 35 publications in nine states.

The first issue of The Advertiser, printed on its own press, was published Feb. 3, 2002.

"It has been a lot of work to get this up and running but it is something I am sure everyone here at the newspaper can be very proud of," said Advertiser publisher Mike Kelley. "This operation is a credit to the men and women who worked so hard to see this project completed."

Until the new printing facility went online, The Clanton Advertiser and The Extra were printed at The Advertiser's sister publication, The Selma Times-Journal.

Jimmy Ruff, who headed the production facility in Selma, is now the production manager in Clanton.

"Our new building, the press and other production equipment are all part of the newspaper's continued commitment to the Chilton County community," Kelley said. "We see it as an investment in our company's future as well as a statement of our belief in the growth of Chilton County."

Clanton Newspapers, Inc. began publishing The Clanton Advertiser in 1975.
